Training and Employability

We make life better for people in Scotland who are disadvantaged and who need a hand - whether that's helping them rebuild their confidence, gain new life skills or providing a much-needed boost on the path to work.

As the recession continues to bite, our youth unemployment has rocketed to its highest ever level - up by 1,100% since 2007. Recent figures say 16% of the Scottish population is economically deprived, while long-term unemployment is a critical issue in many of our communities.

We work to help people acquire the skills and confidence they need to find a job.  This may be an unemployed young person who has never had the chance to join the workforce, or someone who has been unemployed for a long time and is struggling to find a job, however old they are. By getting involved in canal-based work, they can learn new skills and achieve work experience - and in some cases, qualifications - that can lead to newfound self-confidence and employment. The canals themselves also offer long-term, sustainable employment opportunities.

For many people, the answer to their problems may be right here - help us bring the canals in Scotland into the lives of those who need them.
