Learning

It is essential that we inspire a new generation of Scottish canal champions, who will protect and develop our precious canal system long into the future.

Much of our glorious Monkland Canal was concreted over with the M8 motorway and has been lost forever - we need to make sure a national loss like that never happens again.

By bringing the Scottish Canals into young people's lives we help them to experience the value and wonder they offer - incredible heritage and wildlife, exciting outdoor rural and urban spaces to explore.

We teach everyone, young and old, about how to protect and care for the canals, and hope this inspires them to begin a journey of life-long learning. We also enrich the lives of people across Scotland through our artistic and creative projects - projects which improve access to our canals, and help to bring them back to life.

Our projects mean we can ensure our next generation of canal champions is waiting in the wings - but we can't do it alone.  We need people who want to transform lives and enrich Scotland for generations to come.

Help us to inspire learning and connect communities with our waterways
