Communities and Regeneration
All along the Scottish canal network we work with local people,
helping to transform their local canals and rebuild their
communities.
The Scottish canals run through nine separate local authority
areas, and three of these are the most deprived in Scotland. The
banks of the Lowland Canals are home to 20% of Scotland's most
deprived communities, while some of our Highland communities suffer
from isolation and unemployment.
We work with all kinds of people, from all walks of life, to
help them experience the wonder of our canals and benefit from the
many projects we run. Through our work we help people who are
marginalised and disadvantaged to improve their health, wellbeing,
job prospects and community life.
We also work to protect and regenerate our canals for everyone
to enjoy - we connect people with our rejuvenated canals, and
create opportunities for everyone to enjoy and benefit from our
incredible heritage, wildlife, and green and blue waterside
spaces.
We find out what people really need and want, and then we work
in close partnership with other community groups and organisations
to make it happen.
Help
us to make the biggest possible difference, for us and for
generations to come.
