Gemma Wild

Canal Officer for Cultural Heritage

Hi, I’m Gemma and I’m the Trust’s Canal Officer for Cultural Heritage. My work involves developing and delivering a range of innovative and exciting heritage programmes, encouraging people to connect with the canals’ unique historic environment. The canals are one of Scotland’s most important national heritage collections, showcasing amazing engineering feats plus a huge variety of fascinating and important historic buildings and archaeological sites.

With a background in architectural history and historic building conservation, I’m looking forward to bringing that experience to the Trust to help people understand and appreciate the cultural heritage of the canals. I’ll be working across all five historic waterways so wherever you are -from Inverness to Glasgow, Crinan to Edinburgh - there’ll be heritage happenings not too far away!

If you or your organisation are interested in finding out more about canal heritage, get in touch or keep an eye out for future events. There is a range of ways you could get involved from enjoying a guided walk to volunteering to help us maintain and protect the canals’ unique historic environment.
